FAQS
SHOULD I LEAVE THE DECORATING FOR LATER?
CAN'T WE JUST IGNORE THE GAPS BETWEEN THE FLOORBOARDS?
CAN I DO THE SANDING MYSELF WITH A HIRED MACHINE?
Our machines are the very latest, dust-free models and we always keep them maintained in peak condition. That way, the dust is limited to virtually nil and we get a beautifully smooth floor every time. MY WOODEN FLOORING LOOKS REALLY FOUL - CAN IT BE RESTORED AT ALL?
The ground-in filthy and messy looking stains from old paint may actually be doing the boards a service by protecting them from further harm. When we use our equipment to strip off the surface grime the wood underneath is usually as good as new and ready to be finished.
CAN I HAVE ANY FINISH I WANT?
For example, in a kitchen or out-house the floor might be expected to experience some level of accidental spillage, so it makes sense to choose something like a varnish, which will provide a good surface seal for the wood. In a reception area you’ll probably find that oiling is a good idea because it will penetrate into the wood’s heart and create a beautiful, warm glow.
Also remember that different finishes will entail different types of maintenance to keep the floor looking good for as long as possible. With oils, for instance, you’ll need to re-oil quite regularly, but you’ll also be able to carry out localised repairs when patches start to appear. Local repairs are not possible with a wax or varnish finish, although re-application of the finish can be less frequent than it is with oil.
